A near miss!

It was probably a cigarette butt, carelessly thrown away, that started violent fires near Gabian last week. Because of the prolonged draught (we haven't had any rain for weeks) the Garrigue burned like scale. Stormy winds made the fire come very close to La Grange. They could be stopped only a very short distance from the cellar.

We cannot praise the courageous commitment of the firefighters enough; two of them suffered serious injuries. They used the water from the La Grange pool to extinguish the fire, a scant meters away from the sheep shed.

They also lit the harvested field next to La Grange as a counter-fiere.
The edges of the vineyards right above the cellar have been charred, but our winemaker Thomas assures us that the plants will recover until next year.
No building has been damaged, everyone is well, even the sheep, and a wine tasting could be held at the winery the same day. The present firefighters were applauded repeatedly.

A refreshing stop on the ralley circuit

The classic car ralley 'Le Circuit des Coteaux Languedociens à Cassan' is organized by the Herault region center of tourism. La Grange offered a refreshing stop on their circuit.

Inauguration day!

Inauguration day has finally arrived!

The first guests have arrived. And everyone at La Grange is ready to celebrate the inauguration of our beautiful new winery with all of you!

Yard work - only one day left until inauguration day!

Our garden specialist François said: 'La cave doit être belle à l'extérieur, aussi!' - The winery has to be pretty from the outside as well!

A bit of stress won't hurt!

More than one medical study has shown that a bit of stress is actually healthy. Hence we look upon our current sojourn at La Grange as a health spa stay.

The stress factor is the inauguration of our new winery on May 30th. Will all be ready?

Everyone is confident, the artisans are working faster than ever, the architect is sure that all will be well… so we, too, are convinced that we'll make it on time. And a bit of improvisation is part of the fun, isn't it? Especially here in the south.

Watch your toes! - A thriller at La Grange

We knew that we had a super team here at La Grange. Today they got a chance to prove just how good they are.

The two delivery men tried to set up the press all morning long. With great difficulties. It was problematic to get the press down from the truck in the first place. Then the projecting roof of our winery turned out to be too low and didn't leave enough manoeuvring space for the crane. So for a while it seemed as though we would have to tear down the winery again in order to set up the press.

After lunch the La Grange specialists Pierre-Yves, François, Raphael and Thomas solved the problem in half an hour.

With great technical expertise and a lot of ingenuity they had the press set up in a heartbeat. We are lucky to have such employees here at La Grange! Châpeau!

Stone upon stone

'Stone upon stone' is a german children's song that I'm always reminded of when I look at the new winery.

It goes 'stone upon stone, stone upon stone, our little house will soon be finished.' Of course, our new building isn't quite finished yet, but we see progress every day.

You can already see what our new winery will look like: no-frills and very beautiful.

We are all looking forward to the inauguration party next year.

Rolf and our architect Monsieur Ferrand are diligently planning the interior construction and the local artisans are being summoned one by one.

In this airy atmosphere with beautiful weather on top it's much more pleasant to negotiate prices than in a cool office!
